Hungary’s national currency is referred to as the forint. Euros are still widely accepted at hotels, restaurants and some shops. The country offers traditional souvenirs and trinkets, however there are some specific items that are unique to Hungary which should not be missed. Those include cold-smoked sausages, Hungarian saffron and paprika, cheeses and wines, as well as unicum, a herbal digestive liquor. Hand painted porcelain, called Herend, is considered a luxury item and only available in the country.
